Gilead Partners With Emory University’s $100 million campaign to reduce HIV/AIDS in the South

During 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic has been in the news constantly. However, many people have forgotten about the AIDS/HIV pandemic that has claimed lives down here in the south for decades.

For instance, did you know almost half the people who are dying of AIDS in the USA are from the South? What makes that extraordinary is that the south makes up only about 33 percent of the US population.

Here in 2021, the CDC reports almost 45 percent of new HIV infections occur right here at home in the South.

What is the goal of the doctors at Gilead? “So we’re really looking to get rid of HIV and the South,” McGoy said. “And once we do that, I think we can end HIV in this country.” – source
